Andi's Angle Archives:December 1999

The clock ticks down to one second, and the coach calls a time out.  His team is down by two points, and he only has time for one play.  He gathers his team together and explains what he wants them to do.  They return to the court.  The in-bounder throws the ball to the player at the top of the key.  The player looks and takes the shot.  The ball swishes through the net for three points as the buzzer is sounding.  The crowd goes wild!!

That coach was so proud of his players.  They executed the play just as he had explained, and it worked perfect.  When we listen to God and do as he says, he is proud of us too.  How many times have we heard a sermon or read a passage of scripture and then do something that is contrary to what we have been taught? Why do we insist on doing things our way and not God's way?  Do we forget that the plan of salvation was designed BY God FOR man?  In Acts 5 we read of the couple, Ananias and Sapphira, who tried to do things their own way and their punishment for doing so.  We cannot be so prideful as to think that we can pick and choose the pieces of God's instructions that we want to follow.  It is either all or nothing with our Lord.

I was at that game in February of this year, sitting between Allison McClure and Kathy Stephens.  The coach was Bobby McClure, the "buzzer beater" was Kirsten McClure, and the in-bounder was Lori Stephens.  In Matthew 18:3, Jesus told his disciples that "Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."  I think that we all can learn from the children how to have faith in our heavenly Coach and follow His plan for our lives.
